DEVELOPMENT     PROCESS    DESCRIPTIONS

RESEARCH for DEVELOPMENT

This is basically a step to become familiar with the product. We study product uses, special features, the market, competition, manufacturing processes, materials and other topics. When necessary, more specific approaches are employed such as task analysis and human factors data generation.

DESIGN & CONCEPTS

At this stage we assign the work to a team of staff designers and engineers best qualified to handle the particular project. They study the research and generate many ideas. The concepts are refined and then presented to the client in the form of sketches, renderings, mockups, written reports or other methods which best illustrate the idea.
When we have discussed the concepts with the client and the client has chosen a direction, we begin to refine the design. This is accomplished in design layout form where the factors are determined. Designers concentrate on making the product easy to use, pleasing in appearance, and coordinate with the engineers who focus on solving functional problems. At this time production methods, materials, mechanism design, and cost are weighed with overall marketing objectives.

DRAFTING/COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

Once the design is finalized, designers & CAD engineers produce detail drawings and specifications that are required to make parts. This is often done in CAD form and consists of assembly drawings, individual detailed part drawings, and parts lists.

DIGITIZING

Some cases require us to digitize your part to establish what is called a point of reference.

MODEL MAKING

The assembly of a fully functional prototype confirms the final appearance, function and accuracy of the drawings. Often, prototype tooling is produced and limited parts are made at this time. At earlier stages in the program, scale models or full scale mockups that are nonfunctional are often made to visualize the appearance in three dimensions.
